Researchers from Japan say the pets cry happy tears when they see their owners.Dogs often cry to clear their eyes. But before cleaning their eyes, their tears have been linked to emotions. it’s thought the tears might make the relationship between dogs and human stronger.
1.You’re crying! Study shows dogs get teary-eyed when they reunite with owners
The headline is saying that dogs get tears-eyed when they reunite with their owners. “Reunite” means meet again, usually after a while. But I highlight the word tears-eyed here. ‘Teary-eyed’ is an adjective, which describes someone or something in this story, is crying or is likely to cry. It’s used for both tears of joy and tears of sadness. For example, Whenever I have to say goodbye to my mum’s dog, I get really teary-eyed.
2.Dog’s eyes well up wth tears of joy when reunited with their owners
A well is a big hole out side that you can get water from. It is a very useful way to think about this phrasal verb “well up”. If you bring too much about to the surface, it spills it flows over. So imagine that your eyes are like a well. If you well up, it means the water, in your eyes, would flow. You would cry. So the headline is saying that dogs are welling up when they see their owners. The dogs are going to cry. And “welling up” is also used to describe a feeling.
3.They call it puppy love! Dogs shed tears of joy when reunited with their owners.
She’d is used to talk about releasing or letting something go. It’s a verb and we used it to talk about something becoming separate from something else that it was attached to. For example, dog shed fur and it comes out everywhere. We also use ‘shed’ with tears. ‘To shed tears’ just means to cry.
