Charles Ⅲ has been crowned king of the UK and other Commonwealth realms in a coronation ceremony. Members of the Royal Family and senior politicians from around the world attended. Various events took place over the weekend, including a special concert and street parties. But not of all has been celebrating. Police controversially arrested anti-monarchy protesters on the day.
1,The coronation review- immaculately rehearsed, touching and Shakespearean
This headline says that the coronation was immaculately rehearsed, which means perfected and entering perfect. I explain the meaning of touching. If you touch something physically, you will feel it. But if you touch metaphorically, it’s used emotional and that’s a literally feeling like reaches out and touches you. So the headline says that the coronation was the emotional event. And we can use “touching” as another meaning. For example, your friend gives a speech at your graduation, and you find very emotional which is touching. And also you’re reading a book about soldiers returning from your warm meeting families and perhaps it’s long time, it’s touching which means emotional.
2,Coronation concert: I’ll be your wingman, Tom Cruise tells King Charles- as it happened
Tom Cruise is basically saying that he would support King Charles. A wingman is a friend who supports another friend. For example, you might be out with a group of friends and a male friend in particular wants some support in trying to meet a partner. That is a wingman.
3.Prince harry Shunned From Buckingam Place Balcony- And Soon Bolts for Airport
Prince Harry was shunned from the balcony, which means he was not included. But I’m looking at a word “bolts”. “Bolts” might be useful to think of it as a noun. It’s a lightning bolt which is something that happens very quickly. “To bolt” as a verb means to leave or escape very fast. Prince Harry did leave the coronation very quickly and there was some controversy about him attending at all.
